Lunch Liberation: Thursday: Elvis Presley Sandwich Reincarnated

bread with fruit and chocolate almond butter for thursday lunch liberation sandwich

Elvis Presley is actually kind of a controversial figure in today’s society. There is a distinct line between those who like Elvis Presley music and those who don’t, and mentioning any opinion on Elvis music in a multi-generational circumstance will surely start a war. Furthermore, there is considerable debate as to what happened to Elvis and how – or even if – he passed on. And he was always controversial as a celebrity for his scandalous dance moves! 🙂

But the one thing Elvis Presley did that most everyone can agree is a success is his popularization of the famous “Elvis Presley” sandwich: peanut butter and banana. I too like that particular combo of the sweet and salty flavors. So do many citizens of this earth (except those who are unfortunately allergic to peanut butter.) But the whole point of my “Lunch Liberation!” posts is to explore what I hope are less plain, more fresh and interesting healthy lunch options. I couldn’t just be boring and make what would be probably the billion-trillionth peanut butter-banana sandwich and blog about it. Instead, I made what I hope is a creative twist on the original, swapping out the peanut butter for dark chocolate almond butter and adding strawberries for a new flavor profile. Instead of salty-sweet, this sandwich is sweet-tart-rich-chocolatey. It really bares just an echo of resemblance to its past life of the Elvis Presley ‘wich. It has been reincarnated!

Dark Chocolate Almond Butter, Strawberry & Banana Sandwich

Makes 1 sandwich

  • 2 slices whole wheat bread
  • 2 tbls dark chocolate almond butter
  • half or a little less banana, sliced
  • 1 small strawberry, cut into pieces (or use more strawberry if you want more tart flavor)

Yeah, I know you all know how to make a sandwich, so I’ll keep this brief:

Spread almond butter evenly on one slice of bread. Arrange banana and strawberry slices on bread so there are some of each on all areas of the bread.

Spreading the almond butter…
