This smoothie is really all you will ever need in life. Got stress? Just take a deep breath and blend up this dark chocolate delight. The cool, rich waves of euphoria rolling over your tastebuds will surely relieve your anxiety, as well as causing world peace, ending global warming, and getting you an instant A+ on all your final exams.
Okay, okay, maybe it won’t solve ALL the problems in the world. But it’s certainly a first-rate breakfast. The taste is true paradise: rich, deep dark chocolate with undertones of berries and peanut butter. The first sip is addictive – I wanted to take my time and savor it, but it was hard to resist gulping it down all at once! I can guarantee with almost 100% certainty that as long as you’re human, you will LOOOVE this smoothie. It will take you to seventh heaven.
Have you ever read that Greek myth, the one about the lotus-eaters? There’s this island full of people who have been lured there from the sea. They taste the island’s potent lotus flower just once and instantly become hooked. They forget where they were going, and are content just to stay on the island eating lotus flowers for the rest of their lives. I think this smoothie could become just like those lotus flowers: so addictive, all I ever want to do is drink this smoothie. Forget projects and finals! Who needs them when you can have an ambrosial cup of smoothie perfection?
Seriously, though, this smoothie is both delicious and healthy. It delivers a full two servings of fruit through a banana and a cup of berries. The chocolate almond milk provides calcium, and the peanut butter packs in fiber and protein. Plus, there’s a special secret ingredient…(no it’s not drugged!) Want to know what the secret ingredient is? What makes this smoothie so nourishing, and so delicious at the same time? All right, fine, I’ll tell you. But you have to treat this information with care. Don’t just open up your own “Lotus-Eater Smoothie Cafe” and serve these smoothies to the public, turning them into complacent zombies who do your bidding in the hopes of getting another smoothie. That wouldn’t be fair. Especially since it was my idea first and I’ve already copyrighted that business name. 🙂

It’s actually not that weird, is it? Nowadays “green monster smoothies” with spinach are all over the internet. But most of these “green smoothies” are actually, well, green. I was expecting that mine would be as well, but it kind of turned out more blackish-blueish-brown. Probably because of all the other ingredients I used. But that’s kind of a good thing. The color disguises the “secret ingredient” and makes it look like a regular old chocolate smoothie or shake. Health-conscious parents, I totally dare you to try serving this to picky eaters. They’ll never know there’s spinach in it, and will probably love the ultra-rich, chocolatey taste. Much better than trying to bake greens into the little ones’ brownies (ewww!)

Rich Chocolate Berry Peanut Butter Spinach Smoothie
makes one serving
- 1 banana
- 1 single-serve carton of Silk brand dark chocolate almond milk
- 1 cup fresh baby spinach
- 1 cup fresh mixed berries (I used mostly blackberries, with some blueberries and raspberries)
- 2 tbls peanut butter (I used crunchy)
- 2 ice cubes
Directions: Place all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth, about one and a half to two minutes. Make sure all the ingredients are blended thoroughly.
Pour into a tall glass and
gulp down with abandon take a dainty sip. You won’t regret it!
Unless of course, you forget your name in the depths of this smoothie…
