The Great Cookie Baking Adventure

There’s baking, and then there are baking adventures. Just plain baking can consist of whipping up a muffin mix, pouring the batter neatly into paper cups, and carefully placing the muffins in the oven for a set amount of time. A baking adventure, on the other hand, entails venturing into uncharted territory, creating your own unique idea for a recipe, assembling the ingredients without the help of a boxed mix, and daring to try something new with no guarantee the results will be pleasing. A baking adventure can end in sorrow and regret…or it can produce a heavenly reward not found on any grocery store shelves. The reward of creating something yourself, through a thrilling adventure, is both a feeling of accomplishment and, of course, a batch of very special baked goods to share with friends and family.

But baking adventures require hard work. For this particular venture into the mostly unmapped territory of s’mores stuffed cookies, for instance, I had to endure suffering and sacrifice. (The melted marshmallows stuck to my fingers and it took, like, ten minutes to get it off and place it on each unbaked cookie. So I suffered drudgery and sacrificed the cleanliness of my hands.) Baking is not a task to be taken lightly. If you’re a baking adventurer like me, you know how intense an uphill struggle it can be to work with sticky, clingy food.

But in the end, I reached the summit of the mountain! (Figuratively speaking.) That is to say, all my efforts were worth it because the cookies turned out great. Great in the way that only baked goods created by a venture into the wilderness of baking can be. The brownie-cookie is soft and chewy, and the filling: melty chocolate and marshmallows, oh my! The walnuts on top contribute some crunchy excitement.

If you are willing to embark on a kitchen adventure, if you laugh in the face of danger (danger of really sticky marshmallows) and don’t mind getting a little chocolate on your hands as you battle your way to the peak of the cookie-baking mountain, then this recipe is for you! Try it just as it is to make some intensely awesome S’mores Stuffed Brownie Cookies. Or, if you’re really adventurous, why not try adapting the recipe to make something even more exciting? We are the cartographers of the cookie-baking universe, and our map is always being built upon by new adventurers. So why not etch in a territory of your own? If you can conquer it first, that is. (You will be battling verrrrry sticky marshmallows!)

Calling all explorers and creators of the baking world! Come see the path my adventure took…or create your own! Either way, it might just produce the most delicious thing you’ve ever tasted!
