I am Jewish, and I celebrate Passover, the festival of spring and the reliving the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt. Basically, we observe this holiday by sitting at my grandma’s house with a bunch of relatives for a few hours reading a Passover Haggadah, and for one week we don’t eat bread and other stuff like that. If you’ve ever tasted Matzah, you know it’s not the most delicious thing in the world.
However, at the seder we do eat some good foods that are kosher for Passover. One of these foods is called haroset, and it’s basically chopped apples with cinnamon, walnuts and spices. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved eating a little haroset sandwich at the seder, with a bit of matzah broken in half and some sweet haroset inside.
I made this smoothie in late August, a long way off from Passover which is in March or April. I didn’t intend for the smoothie to taste like haroset, but once I took a sip it immediately hit me – I had created a haroset flavored smoothie! And even better, I didn’t have to have matzah on the side. 🙂
