Ah, summer vacation. Endless days of sunshine and the freedom to do whatever I want. Too bad it can’t be summer all year round. I guess if it was we’d all get really bored of vacation time, though that scenario is somewhat hard to imagine.
When I was younger, I used to love swimming during the summer. I’d pretend I was a mermaid, searching for a lost treasure or trying to reach the shallow end of the swimming pool before the sharks caught me. Yes, there were quite a few dangerous creatures in the pool when I was a kid. But somehow, I managed never to get eaten. I used to swim for hours – my mom practically had to drag me out of the pool! Now, I actually don’t care for swimming too much. Somehow being cold and wet all over doesn’t appeal to me. Sometimes if it’s really sweltering hot, I’ll dip my feet in the water. Going down a waterslide seems much more fun to me than jumping in a pool.
Even though I don’t really like swimming, this smoothie I had yesterday for breakfast brings back those good memories of diving into the pool, feeling the refreshing blue water surround me and the tiny bubbles tickling my face like miniature moon jellyfish. (I was obsessed with jellyfish as a kid. I was mortally afraid of them but also loved them.) The berry flavors mingle with banana and mango to create a sweet, bright taste, reminiscent of a sunny day. Taking a sip of this smoothie is like splashing into summer, which is why I’m calling it the summer splash smoothie.
Summer Splash Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup Odwalla “Berries GoMega” juice
- 1 Chobani mango flavor lowfat Greek yogurt
- 1 tbsp apricot pineapple jam
- 5-6 ice cubes
Directions:
Blend until all the ice is crushed.
Tip: Whenever I make my smoothies, I want them to be really cold when I drink them. So After I blend the smoothie, I always stick it in the refrigerator to chill while I wash the blender and put away all the ingredients and everything. That way, I have a cool smoothie to look forward to while I’m cleaning up!
