Maple Pear Cookie Dough Smoothie

I have shared numerous recipes for smoothies with store bought cookie dough. The cookie dough adds a decadent richness and texture, making a healthy smoothie taste more like a milkshake. However, I realized I could make this concept even healthier by making my own cookie dough. This way, I could really control what went into the cookie dough: whole wheat flour, organic maple syrup with no added sugar or preservatives, and a bit of protein-packed peanut butter for a cookie dough indulgence I could really feel good about.

I made a cute little mini-batch of cookie dough just for this smoothie. It was so alluring, it was hard not to snag some before it made its way into the smoothie! But somehow it seems to have made it, and the results were wonderful: a delicious treat sweetened with pure maple syrup and embellished with homemade cookie dough. Enjoy this smoothie for breakfast, dessert or anytime you feel like a tall glass of pure bliss.

Ingredients:

for cookie dough

  • 1.5 tbls whole wheat flour
  • pinch salt
  • 1/2 tbl creamy peanut butter
  • 1 tbl pure organic maple syrup
  • sprinkling of semisweet chocolate chips (I used about 1 tbl)

for smoothie

  • 1 banana
  • 1 whole pear, cut into chunks
  • 1 cup milk
  • generous splash of cinnamon
  • 1 tbl pure organic maple syrup
  • 2-3 large ice cubes

Directions: For cookie dough: Combine the whole wheat flour, salt, peanut butter and 1 tbl maple syrup. Mix until thoroughly blended (mixture will be thick.) Add chocolate chips and stir gently.

For smoothie: Combine banana, pear, milk, cinnamon, 1 tbl maple syrup, and ice cubes in blender. Blend until smooth.

Put it all together: Scoop the cookie dough into the blender with the smoothie, reserving some cookie dough for garnish if desired. Blend for another couple of seconds.

Pour smoothie into a large glass (or two smaller glasses) and top with reserved cookie dough. Now, for the easiest step: sip and savor! (And share with your cat if she is sitting on the table begging like Artemis:) )
